Beauty Product Safety Centre

Cosmetic products placed on the Great Britain market must meet applicable safety, labelling and responsible-person requirements. An imported listing is not automatically safe or marketable.

Three types of advice

  • Cosmetic beauty education — how to cleanse, moisturise, use makeup, select tools and perform suitable non-invasive at-home activities.
  • Professional beauty services — techniques that should be performed or reviewed by qualified beauty therapists, hairstylists or nail technicians.
  • Healthcare — suspected infections, significant skin disorders, severe acne, unexplained hair loss and similar issues for a pharmacist, GP or dermatologist.

Verification statuses

Products move through: Imported → Source checked → Compliance review → Content verified → Approved → Published (or Suspended / Recalled). Unsupported medical claims are never published.

Privacy of photos

Optional photos are never required for basic safety information. Health-related inferences may involve special-category data — keep uploads optional, removable, and purpose-limited. This platform does not use photos for biometric identification.

Always stop and seek advice if

  • Pain, swelling, pus, fever or spreading redness
  • Suspected nail or scalp infection
  • Sudden unexplained hair loss
  • Severe or scarring acne
